Meet Artist And Writer Alisha

Have You Met Alisha?

She may look familiar to you because she is featured in some of the photo you’ve seen here! All of the amazing people you see on my website or in my social media photos are part of my community and this post begins a series of profiles to get to know them, as well as learn from their acupuncture experiences.

Alisha Acquaye (She/Hers)

Alisha is a writer and artist. She writes essays, prose, creative non-fiction and poetry. She also loves doing elaborate, whimsical hairstyles. You can find her facilitating writing workshops and in the past she was known for hosting brunches for women of color in Brooklyn. Currently, she is conceptualizing greater projects that are creatively fulfilling and working towards monetary stability. In this process, she is also learning to be gentle with herself and prioritize her health.

When Asked, ‘How Has Acupuncture Helped You?’ Here Is What She Had To Say:

“Acupuncture has taught me so much about myself. During those dream states where I lay between resting and meditation, I feel the most in tune with my body and mind. Thoughts visit me with more clarity, answers to mundane and meaningful questions become more apparent, and I have vivid visions about my higher self. I’ve experienced some weird, calming and introspective moments during acupuncture, but afterwards I always feel well rested and rejuvenated. My perspective feels more balanced, and I feel capable of achieving whatever I need to for the day, or the problems I once ruminated on become trivial and distant.

Through acupuncture, I’ve also learned that I don’t sleep as thoroughly as I need to. It revealed to me the gaps in my sleeping patterns, and some of it is psychological and emotional. I have a hard time letting go of some things, and during sleep, it can be challenging for me to fully let my guard down and let my body and mind drift into the unknown. During acupuncture, I have no choice but to be submissive to needles, and to listen to the lightning bolts of energy that surge through my veins and seek to loosen tension, stagnation and anxiety. On the evenings after my acupuncture appointments, I usually get the best sleep.“
